On July 21st 2012, ELS trainers Racquel Barth and Grace Purait, conducted an English Camp at Chong Hwa Independent School in Gombak. The aim of the camp, was to equip students with proficiency skills and illustrate that learning English is fun.

Three tasks were executed namely; Story Telling, A Rap Battle and A Fashion Show. The story telling task had the students in a hizz trying to find nouns, verbs and adjectives from a Just English Magazine. After the required amount of word forms were found. The students then wrote an original story using their imaginations. The second task was a rap battle. Students had to rap the popular, “Real Slim Shady” rap by Eminem. Students enthusiastically ‘got-down’, put on their swag and battled to see who the best hip-hop group would be. In the last task, students received newspaper and stationery and created outfits, which were fit for the run-ways of Milan.

In all tasks the students’ level of participation and excitement really made the camp an enjoyable one. The school teaches helped facilitate the camp, and their presence and support was really appreciated by the ELS team present. Grace and I had a ‘ball of a time’, and look forward to conducting the next English Camp.
