On Tuesday, July 30, four ELS Subang Jaya students from Japan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Saudi Arabia went to Rumah K.I.D.S., an orphanage, in USJ. They were accompanied by four Subang Jaya Teachers to drop off donations collected during the month of July. The collection of money, non-perishable food items and books was the focus of the charitable event for July. The response from the students was impressive filling an entire car trunk full with food, books, and other items. The total money collected was RM650. Neil, the spokesman of Rumah K.I.D.S., was very appreciative. He explained that all the children at Rumah K.I.D.S. come from abusive situations or broken homes. Started in 1991, this home has housed and fed many children whose early childhood have been scarred by traumatic experiences. Many do not know what love is, until they are cared for and live in a “family setting” with “brothers and sisters” and house parents. So, the effort from our school to provide them with these donations was for a very worthwhile cause. During the visit, watching the children play and interact with the teachers was heartwarming. It was great to realize these children have a new chance to become healthy, happy adults. Rumah K.I.D.S. is only one of the services provided by Grace Community Services, a local charity in Klang Valley. We look forward to helping this worthy cause again in the future.
