ELS is now offering the Diploma in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) to address the need for high quality English language teachers.
With globalisation, the English language has emerged as the world’s lingua franca. The demand for qualified and competent English language teachers is increasing.
We offer approved and accredited TESOL programmes that are ideal for individuals who are interested in becoming teachers of English as Second Language (ESL) of English as Foreign Language (EFL).
The Diploma in TESOL at ELS is a programme which equips participants with the theories, skills and varied practices needed to become effective English language teachers.

- Individuals who are currently teaching and would like to upgrade his/her teaching qualification
In the first semester, you will build up your proficiency in the English language to prepare you for the programme. From then on, you will be exposed to approaches to second language acquisition, factors that affect language and language use, language learning theories, learning styles, English language teaching techniques and including lesson planning. You will have opportunities to observe and teach in the classroom in the last semester.

- Candidates with completion of SPM (pass in BM) or equivalent
- Obtained 3 credits in SPM or O Level
- Obtained 3Bs in UEC
- Obtained a Level 106 in CIEP or IELTS 5.0
International Student
- Candidates with completion of High School

- Obtained a Credit (C ) in English in O-Levels
- Obtained Band 5.0 in IELTS
- Obtained Computer based = 213 / Written based = 550 / Internet based = 79 -80 in TOEFL
- Obtained a Level 106 in CIEP

International Students - To enroll at ELS, the following documents are required for application of a student visa. It is advisable to send in your application 2 months before the session begins:
- Complete the Application Form
- One (1) set of Photocopy of Passport (Whole Booklet)
- Five (5) passport-sized photographs on a Blue Background
- Two (2) sets of Certified True Copies of Highest Qualifications (in English Translation)
- Two (2) Certified True Copies of English Language Proficiency (if applicable)
- Health Examination Medical Record
- Release Letter & Attendance Record from your current institution (Only applicable for transfer college students)
- Registration + Administration Fee of RM3,000 should be made payable by Bank Draft or Telegraphic Transfer to be sent together with the application

Online Application: http://apply.els.edu.my - Upon receiving your application form, documents, registration and administration fees, a Letter of Acceptance will be issued and we shall proceed with your student visa application at the Immigration Department in Malaysia. This process will take approximately 1 – 2 months.
The Tuition Fees, Resource Fees and Assessment Fees as stated in the Letter of Acceptance have to be paid before the semester begins.
Entry Visa Information
- ELS will send you the Original Student Visa Approval Letter upon obtaining it from the Immigration Department.
- Kindly bring along the approval letter together with your passport to the nearest Malaysian Embassy/Consulate as you are required to obtain a single entry permit before entering Malaysia. (if applicable)
Airport Pick-Up
- After your Single Entry visa is issued, please inform us of your travel arrangements at least 7 days before departure. It is important to note that under Malaysian Immigration requirements, a representative from ELS Language Centres is required to meet you at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).
You should plan your travel so that you will arrive before the semester begins.

- What is the difference between the ELS Diploma in TESOL and the ELS Certificate TESOL?
ELS Diploma in TESOL is a 2 year full time programme whereas the Certificate in TESOL is a 122 hour part-time programme. - Will I be able to practise teaching in a real classroom?
Yes, the last semester is dedicated to giving you that opportunity to observe and teach. - What is the form of assessment?
There is a balance of coursework and examination. - How are classes conducted?
Mostly face-face interaction in the classroom. Most course contents are delivered via lecture followed by tutorials. - Are there classes everyday?
Yes, but mostly between 4 – 5 hours per day with breaks in between for self-study or group discussions. - Will I be able to teach in an English language centre or a private school in Malaysia or abroad when I have completed this programme?
Yes, provided you meet the hiring criteria of the various institutions and country policy. - Who are the teacher trainers for this programme?

It is approved and accredited by MOHE and MQA. ELS Malaysia is recognized as a regional teachers’ training centre in ELS USA. - How ready will I be as an English language teacher at the end of the programme?
To be an effective teacher depends on your commitment and your continuous effort in learning and practicing the teaching skills learnt. Like everything in life, the more practice you get, the better you will become. Remember not to be discouraged but enjoy the opportunity to hone your skills. - Will ELS help get a teaching job for me?
ELS will assist you but will not guarantee you a job. Securing a job will depend on your performance in the TESOL studies, the practicum, and the job interview. - How do I pay my fees?
