Introduction

ELS Johor Bahru is located on the 15th floor of a new commercial building adjacent to one of the town’s most popular shopping centres. The large and roomy centre meets the needs of a modern language school. There are 8 classrooms and a multimedia laboratory that offers a comfortable and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The centre is located in the Pelangi district of Johor Bahru, a premier residential area close to the city. It is conveniently annexed to Plaza Pelangi, a shopping centre that has a host of restaurants, fast food outlets, fashion stores, supermarket (Cold Storage) and department stores.

Area Description

Johor Bahru represents the modern era of the Malay Sultanate. Johor’s attraction is the result of the blend of the traditional and new, from its rich cultural heritage and the modern cosmopolitan influence from across the causeway. Johor Bahru has vast housing estates and shopping areas and is the ‘Southern Gateway to Malaysia’. The city gets quite congested with visitors from Singapore and other regions and is one of the largest cities in Malaysia. Outdoor activities like fishing, hiking and visiting beaches and islands are some of the popular attractions.

Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Museum	Main attraction for foreign tourists wanting to learn more about the Johor Royal family’s heritage. It comprises unique collections of royal artefacts in the region. The museum is one of the palaces open to the public in the Asian region. giving tourists the opportunity to find out about the Johor Royal family.	Car 15 mins
Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque	Overlooking the Straits, this state mosque was finished in 1900 and opened by the then Sultan Ibrahim. A combination of Moorish and Victorian architecture, the mosque’s visiting hours are between 10am and 6pm from Saturday to Thursday except during congregational prayers.	Walk 15 mins
Johor Zoo	The Johor Zoo is one of the oldest in the country. It was built in 1928 by Sultan Sir Ibrahim and was handed over to the state government to manage in the 1960s and open to the public in 1962. There are 100 species of animals in the 5ha compound. The entrance charge is RM2 for adults and RM1 for children. The Zoo opens daily from 8am to 6pm and is visited most during public holidays and school holidays.	Car 20 mins
Plaza Pelangi	Connected to Menara Pelangi, where ELS Johor Bahru is located, Plaza Pelangi is an up-market shopping mall. It has a supermarket (Cold Storage) and a wide variety of branded fashion shops and nice restaurants/cafes like McDonald’s, and Coffee Bean.	Walk 2 mins
Holiday Plaza	Holiday Plaza is a three-storey shopping mall that sells electronics, DVDs, VCDs, CDs, and games at slightly cheaper price.	Car 10 mins
City Square	City Square is Johor Bahru’s most accessible mall. It carries a good range of shops, with a Singapore-run Cathay Cineplex on the fifth floor. There is also a food court run by Singapore-based Food Junction.	Car 15 mins

Car park	Three-level basement parking is available in Menara Pelangi. There is an open air parking lot (Metro parking) beside Menara Pelangi. Street-side parking is also available (parking coupons needed) in Jalan Kuning.
Bus Routes	Transit Link Bus: 101, 138, 140, 180, 188 Maju Bus: 200A, 205, 208, 224, 227 Alight at Standard Chartered Bank or at Plaza Pelangi.
Taxi services	Visitors arriving by taxi should tell the driver to go to Plaza Pelangi. Menara Pelangi is located beside Plaza Pelangi.
